“Four people die in Assam in different incidents”, says State Disaster and Management Authority – World News Network

Guwahati (Assam) [India], April 1 (ANI): As many as four persons were killed in different parts of Assam on Sunday after a storm hit the state, wreaking havoc, destroying buildings, the official of Assam State Disaster and Management Authority (ASDMA) said.
According to the ASDMA, one died due to a storm while two others died in lightning and one 4-year-old child died in the boat capsize incident.
“30-year-old Sakhi Begum Laskar died due to a storm at Rajghat village in Cachar district on Sunday. On the other hand, 46-year-old Rupam Basumatary of Mazbat area in Udalguri district and a 17-year-old minor boy from Donka in West Karbi Anglong district died due to lightning. A 4-year-old child died after a boat capsized in South Salmara Mankachar district,” ASDMA said in a press statement.
A severe hailstorm with heavy rain hit many places in the state on Sunday and damaged many houses, shops, school buildings, and religious institutions and many trees, and electric poles were uprooted.
Meanwhile, after experiencing dry and hot weather for the past few weeks, heavy rains accompanied by hailstorms wreaked havoc in parts of Assam’s Kamrup district and neighbouring areas on Sunday, causing extensive damage to public and private properties.
Several houses were damaged, and trees and electric poles were uprooted in the Nagarbera area of Kamrup district due to the severe hailstorm.
According to locals, several houses were damaged.
“My house was damaged, and many other houses in our locality were also damaged. Many families of Naitor Udla, Kalyanpur, Jamlai, Bidyanagar, Lahotari, and Nagarbera have been badly affected. My wife and daughter were busy cooking when a bunch of trees hit my house due to the storm. Both of them were injured,” a Nagarbera resident said.
Earlier, strong winds, heavy rains, and lightning also struck southeastern Manipur and Assam’s Jorhat on Sunday, causing damage to several houses, crops, and livestock shelters.
Thoubal’s Sapam Leikai and Khongjom villages in Manipur were among the most affected areas with severe damage to houses, buildings and crops there. (ANI)
